How to Put on a Condom Correctly

Getting a condom on properly is key to keeping sex safe and enjoyable. We’ll walk you through the steps to ensure you’ve got it covered—whether you’re using a traditional condom or the Wingman Condom.

Step 1: Opening the Condom Packaging

Before you even think about tearing open that package, check the expiration date and make sure it’s not damaged. A torn package or an expired condom? Not worth the risk! Tear the package open at the jagged edges—no scissors, teeth, or anything sharp that could damage the condom. You don’t want to accidentally compromise its safety and end up at risk for STDs or an unplanned pregnancy.

Step 2.1: Putting on the Wingman Condom

Once you’ve opened the package, gently grab the Wingman by its wings. Keep the logo on the wings facing up and place it on the head of your erect penis. Using one or two hands, push both wings all the way down to the base of the penis. The best part? Once it’s on, just remove the wings and you’re good to go!

The Wingman’s unique design ensures that the tip is already air-free and gives you extra space where it counts. No need to worry about touching the condom itself—it stays intact and ready for action, with no risk of accidental tears from nails or jewelry.

Step 2.2: Putting on a Traditional Condom

Opened the package? Great! Now, take the condom out and figure out which way it unrolls. A quick tip: blow gently into the tip (the “nipple”)—if it unrolls easily, you’ve got the right side up. Don’t let it touch the penis just yet. If you accidentally put it on inside out, grab a new condom because the outer surface might have come into contact with pre-cum, increasing the risk of transmission or pregnancy. Now you are finally ready to go.

Step 3: Removing the Condom

When you’re done, remove the condom before your penis goes soft to prevent any spillage or slipping. Hold the base of the condom as you pull out, then carefully remove it and toss it in the trash (not the toilet!). That’s it!

Safety Tips for All Condoms

  • One Time Only: Every condom is a one-time-use deal. Always grab a new one if you’re switching positions or switching between oral, vaginal, or anal sex.
  • Proper Storage: Store condoms in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Lubricate Correctly: Use a lubricant that’s safe to use with condoms—water- or silicone-based is best.
  • Full Erection Only: Make sure you’re fully erect before putting on a condom for a snug, safe fit.
